Pöyry awarded EUR 2.1 million surveying project for pumped storage hydropower plant in Switzerland Press release 10 June 2010 Pöyry has been awarded the owner’s surveying contract for the new Linth-Limmern pumped storage hydropower plant by Axpo Switzerland. The services comprise all geodetic surveying tasks during the construction period lasting until 2015. The value of Pöyry’s assignment is about EUR 2.1 million. The new Linth-Limmern power station will be installed underground. The project will include building of a new gravity dam, extension of Tierfehd compensation basin, two new caverns for the turbines and the transformers and two pressure shafts and two underwater tunnels. Pöyry’s tasks comprise the independent checking of all major geodetic surveying works as well as geodetic deformation measurements and the monitoring of caverns, dam and tunnel sections. Furthermore, Pöyry’s contract includes the geodetic basic point network and the major setting-out of access tunnels, galleries, caves, gravity dam, surge chamber, pressure shafts and associated structures. Pöyry’s task ends with the industrial surveying for the installation of components such as turbines and steel structures. Pöyry will ensure that all systems can be built, erected, installed and put into operation by December 2015. Press release: Pöyry awarded EUR 1.7 million HVAC design contract for pumped storage hydropower plant in Switzerland Press Release 28 May 2010 Pöyry has been awarded the HVAC design contract for the new Linth-Limmern pumped storage hydropower plant by Axpo, Switzerland. The services provided by Pöyry comprise the tender process, the detail design and construction supervision for the building equipment and safety facilities. The value of Pöyry’s assignment is about EUR 1.7 million. In this project, Pöyry will utilise its expertise both in its infrastructure and energy sectors. The two caverns containing the turbines and the transformers will be built at 1 700 m above sea level. The power plant, with an installed capacity of 1 000 MW, will be supplied with water from Lake Muttsee through two pressure tunnels. The tender services, starting with a review of the existing design project, will be completed in 2012 with the award of the building equipment contractors’ contracts. The detail design phase will last from spring 2011 to spring 2012. Between 2012 and 2015, Pöyry’s construction supervision will make sure that all systems can be put into operation in December 2015. Pöyry awarded metro project in Panama Press release 28 January 2010 Pöyry has been awarded the technical support contract for construction of the first metro line in Panama. The scope of services includes planning, technical feasibility and cost estimation of the project. The value of Pöyry's services is EUR 1.1 million. The project was initiated by the Panama Government, whose primary goal is construction of a secure, efficient and comfortable public transportation system. The recently founded department "Secretaría del Metro de Panamá" will be responsible for planning, building and operating the Panama Metro. The project is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) and Cooperation Andina de Fomento (CAF). The project will be carried out in cooperation with Geoconsult S.A. and C&M Asociados, S.C. Pöyry's services cover planning of the project, analysis of the actual demand data, conceptual design of the first metro line, technical specifications for bid requests and support to the client during selection of the contractor. The services period is estimated to be nine months. Pöyry awarded urban development project in Burkina Faso Press release 27 November 2009 The Millennium Challenge Account, Burkina Faso has awarded Pöyry the design contract for implementation of 17 communal buildings in towns throughout the country as well as improvements to market infrastructure for nine market sites in south-western and north-western Burkina Faso. The value of the contract is about EUR 3.0 million and includes options for additionally 30 communal building sites as well as construction supervision works for all construction sites. Pöyry will complete the study and design phase by September 2011. The design services will begin with socioeconomic planning studies for the market sites. Feasibility studies will be carried out as well as environmental impact assessments and resettlement action plans following relevant national legislation and international guidelines for all sites. The final infrastructure design will assure that the needs of beneficiary communities are fully taken into account. Pöyry awarded design review and construction supervision services for metro project in Peru Press release 25 November 2009 Pöyry has been awarded a design review and construction supervision contract by PROVIAS/AATE for the metro system in Lima and Callao. Pöyry's share of the assignment is EUR 3 million. The project consists of improving the existing 9 km section and constructing a new 11 km section. The services cover both the civil works and the electromechanical systems. In addition, the contract includes supervision of the refurbishment of the existing rolling stock. The project will be executed in cooperation with the Peruvian engineering firm CESEL S.A. PÖYRY AWARDED PLANNING SERVICES FOR REHABILITATION OF THE LONGEST TWIN TUBE MOTORWAY TUNNEL IN SWITZERLAND Press release 31 July 2009 Pöyry has been awarded the design services contract for the rehabilitation of the Seelisberg tunnel by the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA/FEDRO). Located near Lucerne the 9.2 km long Seelisberg tunnel is the longest twin tube motorway tunnel in Switzerland. The objective of the rehabilitation is to guarantee continuous operation of the tunnel for another 15 to 20 years without major interruptions. Pöyry's share of the assignment amounts to nearly EUR 5 million and includes an option for site supervision during the execution phase. Pöyry is the leader of a consortium with two other partners. The design phase will last from 2009 until 2014, and covers the conceptual design, detailed design, approvals procedures, preparation of tender documents and evaluation of bids, and preparation of contract documents. PÖYRY AWARDED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS PROJECT IN SWITZERLAND Press release 25 June 2009 Pöyry has been awarded the project and site engineering services contract by the Swiss federal road office (ASTRA) for traffic management systems in the Northern bypass in Zurich, Switzerland. Pöyry's share of the assignment amounts to about EUR 1.7 million. The scope of the work comprises project planning and onsite engineering, project management and quality control, quality assurance testing of materials and equipment, theoretical and on-the-job training for the operator and inspection of the completed works. Pöyry will provide the services in association with Erb + Partner AG and Edy Toscano AG, Switzerland. The northern bypass of Zurich is a heavily used motorway with several tunnels and junctions. The existing traffic control systems are in need of refurbishment due to their age and to increasing requirements. The refurbishment of the traffic control systems will be implemented on a 23 km section within eight years. PÖYRY AWARDED ENGINEERING CONTRACT FOR NEW OPERATION CONTROL CENTRE FOR THE SWISS FEDERAL RAILWAY IN SWITZERLAND Press release 24 February 2009 Pöyry has been awarded an engineering contract by the Swiss federal railway SBB comprising preliminary design, support in the permission process and tendering and construction supervision for a new operation control centre in Olten, Switzerland. Pöyry's share of the contract is about EUR 3.5 million. Pöyry's services in the project include structural and civil engineering, HVAC and sanitary engineering, electrical engineering and fire safety engineering for the new building. The Swiss federal railway SBB will use this operation centre to control all the rail traffic in the central and north-western part of Switzerland. Therefore the building and its installations, for example the power supply, need to meet very high standards of reliability and availability. The control centre will begin operation after 2015. PÖYRY AWARDED CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR REHABILITATION OF RURAL ROADS IN ZANZIBAR Press release 18 December 2008 Pöyry has been awarded a consultancy contract by the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Zanzibar for rehabilitation of the rural roads on Pemba Island. The value of the contract is about EUR 1.0 million. The project is funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation. Pöyry's services comprise management of on-site supervision and quality control of the rehabilitation works, and supervision of quality assurance testing of materials and works. In addition, Pöyry will prepare an environmental assessment of the proposed rehabilitation works to ensure that the options considered are environmentally sound and sustainable. Also theoretical and on-the-job training and inspection of the finalised works are included in the assignment. Pöyry will provide the services in association with Intech Beusch & Co, Switzerland. The Government of Zanzibar places high priority on efforts to improve infrastructure facilities and management of the road sector on Pemba Island. Rural roads in Pemba are generally in need of rehabilitation on a large scale due to insufficient maintenance over a long period of time. The project objective is to complete 41 km of rehabilitated rural roads within three years, and enhanced management capacity of the Department of Roads through an improved and implemented management system, and training and enhanced resources for rural roads maintenance.
