Metro Maracaibo, Underground Padilla Station, Evacuation Simulation, Venezuela (2008) Maracaibo is the second largest city in Venezuela with a population of 3.2 million people. The Maracaibo Metro is the city’s subway system, which is currently under construction. Swiss Federal Railways, Cross City Link Zurich, Ventilation of the Underground Station Löwenstrasse, Switzerland (2004 – 2012) The underground link between Zurich Main Station and Oerlikon will soon allow the trains to cross the railway knot of Zurich without changing direction. This will increase the traffic volume in the years to come. National Cooperative for the Storage of Radioactive Waste (NAGRA), Ventilation of the Deep Underground Storage Cavern Switzerland (2000 – 2012) For the storage of radioactive waste from industries, research institutions, hospitals and nuclear power plants in Switzerland, it is foreseen to excavate caverns at depths of several hundreds meters in extremely stable geological zones. These storage caverns include a zone for high radioactive waste, another for spent nuclear fuel, one for medium radioactive, long-life waste and one for weakly radioactive elements. Railway Orte-Falconara, Tunnel Terni–Spoleto, Quantified Risk Analysis (QRA), Italy (2007 – 2008) The railway line linking the Tyrrhenian with the Adriatic coast of Italy will be soon doubled and made suitable for high speed train operation. Gotthard Base Railway Tunnel, Switzerland Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety (RAMS) Analysis, Switzerland (2007 – 2009) As part of the AlpTransit rail projects in Switzerland, the 57 km long Gotthard Base Tunnel can be de¬scribed as the most challenging tun¬nel project. Helsinki-Airport Metro Link, Aerodynamically coupled 1D and 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulations, Finland (2007 – 2008) In the underground Metro link between Helsinki and the airport, the piston effect of the running trains is the cause of airflows affecting the metro stations at platform level as well as along the stairs and the escalators to the mezzanine and to the ground levels. Gotthard Base Railway Tunnel, Underground Emergency Station, Switzerland (2008) As part of the AlpTransit rail projects in Switzerland, the 57 km long Gotthard Base Tunnel can be described as the most challenging tunnel project. Power Plant in Al Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, Transition Basin and Discharge Channel (2008) Because of the proximity of a desalination plant to an electrical power station, the rejected waters from both plants are channeled into one basin to be discharged through a ramp canal into the sea close to shore. |
